Esther Boes, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 1:05 pm at IU Health Arnett Hospital. She had previously been a resident at The Springs for the last several weeks. She was born on June 16, 1936 in Lafayette, Indiana to Edward and Gertrude (Bossung) Deephouse. Esther was married to John H Boes Ill on January 31, 1959 in Lafayette, Indiana. They were married for 53 years before his passing in 2012. Esther was a member of St. Lawrence Church. She also attended St. Lawrence School and was a 1954 graduate of St.Francis High School.
Esther worked at National Homes early in her marriage but when her children began arriving, she left to stay at home. Later she did help out at the family business, John Boes WaterCare. Her husband was a fireman with the Lafayette Fire Department. She spent many nights raising her eight children by herself while he was on duty. All she had to say was, "do you want me to call your dad?"
She was a very calm person, even when her kids were climbing the walls. She took up knitting at an early age and knitted hundreds of scarves, mittens, sweaters and her very sought after dish cloths. Knitting kept her sane. She taught her daughters and granddaughters how to knit. She also belonged to the Knitting Club that meets every Thursday at the Sacred Grounds Coffee House.
For anyone who knew Esther, you knew she enjoyed a cold beer, sitting on her porch and being with her family. She was also a two time breast cancer survivor. In the past few years when she was unable to drive anymore, she took it all in stride, never complaining.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, son Ed (Carrie New), her parents, 3 sisters and a brother. She is survived by her children, Mark (Raelynn), Pam Thomas (Ron), Terri Meyer, Mike, Steve, Larry (Katrina) and Kevin (Lisa). She also has 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren with another due in March 2026.
At this time, her family would like to thank the staff at The Springs. They are forever grateful for the wonderful care she received there during her short stay. They truly eased the burden of caring for her when it was needed the most.
Esther would truly just love you all to enjoy a cold beer, get out your knitting needles, and enjoy
