Edwin Anthrop, Sr.

Edwin E. Anthrop, Sr., 89, of West Point, IN died at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette 7:38 AM Monday September 12, 2016 where he had been a patient for the past three days. He had been a resident of Parkview Nursing Home in Attica the past three years. Edwin was born in Lafayette, IN July 28, 1927, the son of the late George A. and Mary Buntin Anthrop and attended school in Klondike. He married Rose Marie Davis Huggler at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette November 12, 1949, and she preceded him in death April 15, 2007. Edwin was a farmer and heavy equipment operator. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the United States Trotting Horse Association, the Indiana and Illinois Trotting Horse Associations, the Indiana Harness Horse Association and raced USAC midgets and stock cars from 1950 until 1962, racing mostly at the Lafayette Speedway. Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Anthrop of Lafayette; Jayne Clinton (Greg) of Paint Lick, KY; two sons, Edwin E. “Butch” Anthrop, Jr. (Mona), of West Point, IN and George F. Anthrop (Susan Spieldenner) of Union City, MI; a brother, Harold Anthrop (Jane) of West Point, IN; and by four sisters, Sister Jane Anthrop of Lafayette; Barb Wagner of Lafayette; Pat Kingma (Wayne) of Battle Ground, IN and Lois Klinkhammer of West Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers George, Jr., Norman, Bill, Bob, Marvin, Joe and Jack Anthrop and by one sister, Dorothy. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. in Lafayette from the Rosary at 4:30 PM until 8 PM Wednesday Sept. 14. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette at 10:30 AM Thursday, Fr. Tim Alkire, Celebrant and Fr. Gusttavo Lopez officiating, with interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Memories and condolences may be left at www.hahngroeberfuneralhome.com
