Edward Barton

Edward G. Barton, 72, of Lafayette, died at Clarian-Arnett Hospital 8:00 AM Sunday August 2, 2009, where he had been a patient the past week. Mr. Barton was born in Lafayette October 15, 1936, the son of the late LeRoy and Elizabeth Lahrman Barton, and was a life- long Lafayette resident. He married Mary Ann Klumpe at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dunnington April 27, 1957, and she survives. Mr. Barton was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School in 1954, and attended Purdue University, where he received a certificate of metallurgy. He worked as a metallurgical technician for Ross Gear-TRW before his retirement in 2002, and had previously worked at Purdue University and Fairfield Manufacturing. Mr. Barton was a life-long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus; Knights of the Immaculata; was a recognized Adorer at St. Elizabeth Chapel; and was a longtime and the longest serving usher at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Surviving beside his wife are 3 daughters, Diane Barton of Lafayette, IN.; Teresa Peters (husband Joe) of St. Joseph, MI.; Lori McCormack (husband Sean) of Tipton, IN.; a son, Jeffery Barton of Lafayette, IN.; a brother, Paul Barton (wife Noelle) of South Bend, IN.; and a sister, Dorothy Paxton of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Barton, Jr. Friends may call at St. Boniface Catholic Church from the Rosary at 4:45 PM until 8 PM Tuesday. Friends may also call from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Fr. Tim Alkire officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
