Edith Shirar

Edith Shirar, age 91, of Lafayette, passed away at St. Elizabeth East Emergency Room unexpectedly at 8:17 PM Thursday December 7, 2017. She was born in Tompkinsville, KY June 6, 1926, the daughter of the late Benton and Edna Bartley Hagan and attended Tompkinsville schools. Edith married Dale Shirar at Frankfort, IN November 8, 1947, and he preceded her in death May 25, 1985. She was employed at the former Home Hospital in Lafayette from 1975 until 1985 as a supervisor in the housekeeping department. Edith enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Graves and Terri Hood (Nick) of Lafayette and by a son, Darrell Shirar (Stacey) of Lafayette. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Roland, Rawland and Jerry Shirar, and by a brother, Robert Hagan. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 12:00 PM until the service at 1:00 PM Sunday December 10, with interment to follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park.
