Donald J. Smith, 82, of Battle Ground, IN. died at his residence 11:58 AM Monday May 20, 2013. Donald was born in Ossining, New York March 4, 1931, the son of the late Elisha and Ella Deveau Smith, and was a graduate of Ossining, New York High School.
He married Margaret Rainville in East Orange, NJ. May 4, 1957 and she preceded him in death February 24, 1993. He later married Marilyn Rodgers in Lafayette, IN. Sept. 9, 1994, and she survives.
Donald was employed by Penn Aluminum International 31 years before retiring February 15, 1987. He had resided in Battle Ground since 1995, and had previously resided in Tampa, FL. and Jefferson Valley, NY. He served in the US Army from 1950 until 1952, and was a member of the American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 1154and 40 & 8, Voiture 364
Surviving beside his wife are two daughters, Kathleen Green of Cleveland, TN and Nancy Slaughter (husband George) of Brookston, IN; two sons, Joseph Connolly (wife Susan) of Stormville, NY., and David Smith (wife Millie) of Lafayette, IN.; one brother Victor Deveau of Ontario, Canada and a sister, Rebecca Nichols of Shrub Oak, NY. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, a great-grandson, 2 sisters and one brother
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. one hour prior to the service at 4:00 Friday, Harry Martin, VFW Post 1154 Chaplain officiating with military rites by VFW Post 1154.
