Deloris A. "Dee" Burdine-Carte, 91, of Lafayette, died at Mulberry Health and Retirement Center in Mulberry, IN. 2:15 AM Thursday Sept. 1, 2011 where she had been a resident since 2006. She was born April 9, 1920 in the family residence in Lafayette on Green Street, the daughter of the late Lawrence "Sawlog" and Bessie L. Covey Turner. Mrs. Carte attended St. Ann's School in Lafayette, and worked as a clerk for the former Beaman Pharmacy over 40 years, retiring in 1991. She married Merle T. Carte in Lafayette in 1980, and he preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Carte was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary; and a member of the Women of the Moose. She enjoyed playing euchre, crocheting, reading, and bird watching; and was a Chicago Cubs Fan, as well as a fan of Purdue Men's and Women's Basketball. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Jo Burdine Tippie (husband Bill) of Lafayette; a son, Thomas H. Burdine (wife Patricia) of Lafayette; and 2 sisters, Betty Turner Schultz of Indianapolis and Patricia A Turner Crose of Lafayette. Also surviving are 3 grandsons, Douglas Wm. Tippie of Chicago, IL.; Scott Burdine of Indianapolis; Timothy Burdine of Lafayette; a granddaughter, Melody Snyder of Lafayette; 2 nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Darrell Carte. The good Lord came to take Deloris to be at peace with him. Friends may call at St. Lawrence Catholic Church from 11 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at Noon Tuesday, Fr. Andrew DeKeyser officiating, with interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to Central Catholic Jr.-Sr. High School Tuition Fund or St. Lawrence Catholic Church or the Gibault School at Terre Haute.
