Barbara Ann Sparrendahl, of Lafayette, died at 10:15 AM Wednesday February 1, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Barbara woa born on October 8, 1934 in Ft. Wayne, IN. the daughter of the late Cletus and BeatriceGrothouse Metzger.
She married Robert A. Sparrendahl on October 23, 1954 and he preceded her in death on December 21, 2000.
Barbara was the mother of Cynthia Martin (husband Phillip) of Barstow, CA.; Michael Sparrendahl of Lafayette, IN. and Diane Dacre of Lafayette, IN. Two grandchildren Julie Nava of Greeley, CO. and Jonathan Martin of Clarksville, TN.; 2 great-grandchildren, Rebecca Nava and Kaitlyn Nava also survive. She has 4 surviving brothers, Fred Metzger (wife Judy) of Indianapolis, IN.; Ralph Metzger (wife Lynn) of Vacaville, CA.; Michael Metzger (wife Sue) of Lawrencville, GA.; Jim Metzger (wife Deborah) of Little Rock, AR.; and 4 surviving sisters, Lois Salzmann (husband Bill) of Fishers, IN.; Marilyn Glenn (husband Bob) of Lafayette, IN.; Karen Weiss (husband Phil) of Morgantown, IN.; and Joan Hunter (husband Chris) of Richland, TX. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Metzger.
Barbara worked for many years at the National Homes corporate office as an executive secretary. She was a confidential secretary for the US Post Office, and retired as postmaster of Stockwell, IN.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Barbara was the Regent for the Catholic Daughters of America and also a member of the women's auxiliary of Navy Club, Ship 11.
Friends may call at St. Mary's Cathedral from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM Monday, with the Rosary service at 4:00 PM Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cathedral at 10:30 AM Tuesday, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating, with interment to follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Matrix Lifeline or St. Mary's Cathedral. Hahn-Groeber Funeral & Cremation Services is caring for the family.
