Agnes Snyder

Agnes M Snyder died quietly early Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Indianapolis, at the home of her daughter, Julie Snyder. Janet, Sue and Tom were also at her side. She was 95. Born, Agnes Mary McGraw on April 5, 1922, at the family farm in Goodland, IN, she grew up as the youngest of 6 children of the late John L McGraw and Katherine F Bower-McGraw. Her sisters, Lillian (William) Downes, Dorothy McGraw and Anna (Walter) Scheetz and brothers, John (Florence Klemme) and Gerald (Viola Bohlinger), their spouse's, infant brothers Edward and Edmond, a niece and nephew, all preceded her in death. Agnes was a graduate of Goodland High School and St Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Lafayette. She was employed at St E's where she met a patient, J William Snyder. They married on August 3, 1946, in Goodland, IN. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before his death in 2000. Agnes was also preceded in death by Bill's sisters, Rosemary (Mack) Layton, Lois (Cleo) Bryan, Lela (Arlon) Garriott, Joann Lisco, their spouse's, and brother-in-law, John R Server. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Dolores (John) Server, and a total of 22 nieces and nephews. As the mother of 7 children, she was the epitome of "unconditional love" to Steven (Susan Scowden), Julia Snyder, Janet (James) Gartland, Linda (Matthew) Lundstrom, Sue (David) Weiler, Thomas (LaDonna Wright) and David (Laura Killian-fiancé). The grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, she was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Hunter Snyder and granddaughter, Korrianne M Lundstrom. Mom was a devoted member of St Lawrence Catholic Church and its quilting group. She could knit, tat and sew nearly anything. She enjoyed attending her annual high school and nursing school reunions, but enjoyed family reunions most of all. Of her family's history, she was a wealth of knowledge with a memory like a "steel trap"! She was a competitor. She played Bridge, Euchre, "Words with Friends" and hated losing. She especially hated losing at Scrabble. (We won't even discuss her games against Aunt Dorothy.) She was a good cook. Always included potatoes or bread, but never learned how to cook for less than an army. She will be sorely missed, but, as you see, she has many family and friends in Heaven that have been waiting a long time for her to arrive. And now she is in charge of selecting angels to be her future decendents. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 4 until 7 PM Thursday, Jan. 11, with the Rosary service at 3:45 PM Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 11:00 AM Friday Jan 12, Fr. Dan Gartland officiating, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
