James Dennis Hatke

James Dennis Hatke, 75, of Lafayette, passed away suddenly at his residence Friday morning December 22, 2017. He was born in Lafayette August 15, 1942, the son of the late Walter and Margaret Wiese Hatke, and was a 1960 graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School and attended Purdue University. James married Kathleen M. Malady at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette May 27, 1978 and she survives. He was employed at Fairfield Manufacturing for 42 years, retiring in 2004 as a metallurgical technician. James was a member of St. Mary Cathedral; volunteered his time with the cleaning crew at St. Mary’s and served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Lafayette Serra Club; loved attending Central Catholic sporting events and attending the monthly meetings of the 1960 graduating class of Central Catholic High School. Surviving with his wife are two sisters, Jeanie Marshall of Lafayette; Mary A. Shonkwiler (Tom) of Monroe, TN; three brothers, John Hatke (Penny) of Attica, IN; Dennis Hatke (Vickie) of Lafayette; Charles “Chuck” Hatke (Shelley) of Lafayette; seven sisters-in-law, Martha Hatke of Attica, IN; Charla Benner of Fowler, IN; Jeannie Sanson (Ken) of Lafayette; Anne Nichols (Bob) of West Lafayette; Theresa Miller of West Lafayette; Bernadette Kremer (Kevin) of Delphi, IN and Christine White (Mike) of Brookston, IN as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas C. and David Hatke; a sister-in-law, Mary Malady; and three brothers-in-law, Gene Marshall, Charles Benner and Jerry Miller. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 4 until 7 PM Thursday December 28. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral 11:00 AM Friday December 29, Fr. Eric Underwood, Celebrant, Fr. Jeff Martin and Fr. Kyle Neterer concelebrants officiating. A private family interment will be held at St. Mary Cemetery.
