Mary T. Stowell, 96, of Indianapolis, formerly of Lafayette, died at St. Augustine's Home in Indianapolis 3:05 AM Saturday February 9, 2013 where she had resided the past 2 years. Mary was born in Stroll, SD March 11, 1916, the daughter of the late William John and Laura C. Gaffney Toner. She attended Stroll, SD schools and was a graduate of St. Joe Academy at Timberlake, SD. She had resided in Long Beach, CA. for 56 years before moving to Lafayette in 2000, and then to Indianapolis in 2011. She married Ralph B. Stowell at Rapid City, SD May 21, 1938, and he preceded her in death April 22, 1995. Mary had worked as a secretary for the Bison and Lemon, SD newspapers as well as being a homemeker. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Surviving is a son, Dr. Joseph Stowell, PhD. of West Lafayette as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Stowell, and by four brothers. Private interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Beardsley, MN.
